NSW Museum Strategy
In October 2021, the NSW Government announced the development of a NSW Museum Strategy, to be delivered by Create NSW, which is aimed at ensuring the NSW museums and heritage sector can continue thriving across the state while preparing for future challenges and opportunities.
The timeline of this work has been affected by the NSW Government’s efforts to assist the arts and culture sector throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and, more recently, to flood-affected areas in NSW.
The Strategy will include heritage museums, Aboriginal Cultural Centres as well as other organisations engaged in collecting and conserving heritage objects and artefacts.
Through a collaborative, evidence and action-based approach, Create NSW will work with the NSW Cultural Institutions, and the cultural heritage and museum sector to create strong foundations for the future of our cultural heritage in NSW.
The NSW Museum Strategy – Development and Approach Paper, outlining Create NSW’s approach to the three stages of the Strategy, is available below.
Stage 2 of the NSW Museum Strategy, sector consultation, will begin in April 2022. This fast-tracked consultation process will involve surveying the museum and cultural heritage sector to obtain your unique perspectives and experiences.

Registered participants will receive the NSW Museum Strategy Sector Survey via email. A link to the survey will also be made available on this page.
If you wish to nominate yourself for any of the Focus Groups outlined in the Approach Paper, you can register your interest by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘Focus Groups’ in the subject line.
Please include a maximum 200-word biography outlining your expertise in the museum and cultural heritage sector. The Focus Groups will be comprised of 8-10 participants each, with selections made by Create NSW staff.
