Do I need to be a Creative Kids Provider to apply for a Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grant?

Who is eligible for this grant?
Small businesses or non-profit organisations that employ less than 20 full-time employees are eligible.
What is a small business?
A small business is a business that:
- holds an Australian Business Number
- employs less than 20 full-time employees. That is, the sum total of all standard hours worked by all employees – whether full-time or part-time – is less than the number of standard hours which would be worked by 20 full-time employees, as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
What is a non-profit organisation?
A non-profit organisation means an incorporated charity or non-profit entity which is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) or an equivalent NSW regulatory body.
To be eligible for the Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grants you must also employ less than 20 full-time employees. I have an ABN and I am a sole trader, but I don’t employ anyone. Would I be considered a Small Business Owner?
Yes, you are considered a small business owner. A small business owner is a sole trader, partnership, private company or trust that carries on a small business.
Do I need to be based in NSW to apply for a Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grant?
Yes. To be eligible for the Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grant Program you need to be a small business/non-profit organisation based in NSW.
Does my activity need to take place within NSW?
Yes, all Creative Kids activities must take place in NSW.
When can I apply for funding?
Applications for the Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grants Program opened on 5 May 2020 and closed on 30 June 2020 (or before this date if funds are expended). Applications may be submitted at any time during this period.
How much can I apply for?
You can apply for up to $5,000. There is no minimum amount.
What can the funds from a Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grant be used for?
You may apply for costs directly associated with transitioning to online delivery of your activities or program. Please note that the Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grant funds cannot be used for expenses already covered by other grants.

If I’ve already made purchases to transition my programs online. Can I apply for this grant to cover these costs retrospectively?
No, you cannot apply for grant funds to covers previous expenses. However, you can apply for other expenses that will be incurred after notification of funding, which will be five weeks after submitting your application.
Do I need to contribute my own funds to the project as well as the Creative Kids Digital Small Business grant?
No, your proposed activities can be funded entirely by this grant. However, the grant funds may contribute towards a larger project or other expenses covered by your business or organisation.
How will my application be assessed?
Your application will first be checked for eligibility and then, if eligible, will be assessed internally by Create NSW staff.

What criteria will my application be assessed on?
Your application will be assessed on the three assessment criteria:
- merit
- impact
- and viability.

Will Create NSW consider priority areas when assessing applications?
Create NSW will make final recommendations in reference to the assessment criteria, artform, demographics and the distribution, range and scale of recommended applicants.
Do I need to attach letters of support or confirmation letters?
No, you do not need to attach letters of support or confirmation letters.
Do I need to provide a budget breakdown?
No. However, we ask that you attach quotes or screen grabs to show how you have arrived at the amount/s you are requesting from Creative Kids.
When will I know the outcome of my application?
You will know the outcome of your application no later than five weeks after you submit your application.
If I am successful, when can my project start?
You will be notified of the outcome of your application no later than five weeks after you submit your application, and you cannot start your activities in that period. Your application will be ineligible for funding if your activities begin within five weeks of submitting your application. Activities must then be completed by 31 December 2020.
Within these limits, you can start and complete your activities at any time.
When does my project need to be completed?
Your project must be completed by 31 December 2020.
When will I receive my grant payment?
If you are successful in receiving a Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grant, you will be required to return a signed contract and completed invoice within two weeks of receipt. Payment will be in line with the State Government payment process – all attempts will be made to pay successful applicants no later than four weeks after notification. It will be up to you to plan your timeline accordingly so that you will have funds for your program.
How much should I pay artists and others involved in my activities?
The following organisations can provide advice on payment rates for artists, creatives and arts workers:

Funds may be used for employment of specialists, consultants, artists, presenters or facilitators directly associated with transitioning to online delivery (if not covered by other grants).
Funds cannot be used to pay staff members’ normal salary or wages, in part or in full, or ongoing operational costs.
If I am successful for funding, will my grant be subject to tax?
Grants paid by Create NSW may be considered as part of your income in a financial year and may be subject to tax. You must determine your own taxation liabilities. Create NSW suggests you consult your financial adviser or contact the Australian Taxation Office on 13 28 66. If you have any tax requirements, please ensure that you notify Create NSW of them before your funding contract is issued. Successful applicants who also receive Government payments such as the Disability Support Pension must advise the appropriate agency.
If I am successful for funding, what are my reporting requirements?
You will be required to submit an acquittal at the conclusion of the funded activity.
An acquittal is the process of evaluating and reporting on the outcomes and expenditure of funds provided by Create NSW. You will be required to complete an online form, accessed through Create NSW’s online application system, and attach receipts. The due date for the acquittal will be documented in your contract.
