The Australian Museum is Australia’s first museum. In November 2020 it completed an award-winning revitalisation project known as Project Discover.

The redevelopment, designed by Neeson Murcutt and Neille and COX Architecture, received three significant accolades at the 2021 Australian Institute of Architects NSW Architecture Awards, including its top honour, the NSW Architecture Medallion.

The works also improved amenities including a new dedicated entrance for school groups, expanded workshop spaces, a refurbished members lounge and café.

Project Discover marked the first step in the realisation of the Australian Museum’s vision for the future. Create NSW continues to work closely with the Australian Museum on gallery upgrades and a master plan update to coincide with the Australian Museum’s 200th anniversary in 2027.
