Following a recent ground-breaking ceremony, work is now set to begin on the $5 million extension to the Orange Regional Gallery, supported by the NSW Government’s Regional Cultural Fund.

The project will provide a boost to the arts in the central west. It includes a 270 square-metre contemporary gallery with innovative use of natural lighting, as well as a purpose-built 75-seat gallery theatre, which will be a unique gathering space for the wider community to engage with the arts through recreation and education programs.

A new state-of-the art collection and conservation area is also included in the extension to protect and grow the Gallery’s nationally significant collection.

Additionally, the project will see major refurbishments to the reception area and smaller downstairs gallery, allowing the large existing Alan Sisley Gallery to become a space to regularly showcase highlights from the Gallery’s permanent collection.

The Gallery extension is expected to take about a year to complete with the grand opening slated for Spring 2021, providing a further attraction for Orange as a regional tourism destination.

The Orange Regional Gallery extension is one of 136 projects across regional NSW supported by the Regional Cultural Fund, creating opportunities for greater community interaction with all forms of artistic expression through recreation, participation and education. As well as providing a platform to promote cultural tourism.
