Arts NSW’s research paper “Integrating arts into innovation districts” promotes the benefits and guiding principles on how arts and culture contributes to successful innovation hubs and districts, as well as highlighting national and international best practice case studies.
The paper promotes the value of engaging with Arts NSW at the early planning stage of urban regeneration projects, to explore the role that arts and culture can play in creating an authentic sense of place, a brand that attracts knowledge workers, fostering creativity and diversity, and encouraging the exchange of ideas across multiple disciplines.
An arts-activated innovation district can attract key anchor tenants, global talent, and local and international investment. Arts-led place-making methodologies help to create ‘urban vibrancy’ and spaces where people want to linger and share ideas, in and around innovation hubs and districts. Creating multi-use spaces encourages diversity of participation, activating districts both day and night.
The research paper, downloadable here, provides a platform for discussion across government and the private sector to promote the role and contribution of arts and culture to the state.
