The Australian Museum is currently closed to the public to enable its major renovation, Project Discover.
This exciting redevelopment will expand public floor space to improve the experience for museum visitors and attract major international touring exhibitions.
COX Architecture and Neeson Murcutt are leading the design and Kane Constructions is the selected contractor. Works have commenced on site and construction is scheduled for completion in Spring 2020.
Project Discover will enable the Australian Museum to repurpose existing storage space to significantly expand the touring exhibition halls to 1,500 square metres across two levels for a flexible exhibition hall capable of staging either one large exhibition or two exhibitions simultaneously.
The redevelopment will also include the creation of new education facilities, a new museum shop, a second café, cloaking and new amenities.
