Make Music Day is a global celebration of music making across more than 1000 cities around the world. Create NSW and the Australian Music Association are in their fifth year of partnership in 2022, which also marks the 40th Anniversary of Make Music Day worldwide

Originating in France in 1982, Make Music Day is a day of FREE music in the city and towns – including street corners, parks, rooftops, gardens, and shop fronts. Unlike a typical music festival, anyone and everyone is invited to join in and play music or host performances.

Create NSW continues to partner with the Australian Music Association and Live Music Office to build support for Make Music Day. In 2021 Create NSW partnered with Australian Music Association and Live Music Office to build support for Make Music Day and collaborated with Transport NSW, Education and Training, Arts Unit, School Infrastructure, Correction Services, Women in NSW, Communities and Justice and Planning, Industry and Environment. Whilst also working with Music NSW, APRA AMCOS, Sydney Olympic Park, TAFE NSW, Western Sydney University, Local Government NSW, Art Gallery of NSW, Australian Institute of Music amongst others bringing Make Music Day to life.

Make Music Day enables musicians to perform in a range of spaces and forge new partnerships for opportunities for musicians and audiences. In 2022, Create NSW will focus on;

  • Increasing First Nations employment in the music sector
  • Profiling Women in Music
  • Performance opportunities for young people in Regional NSW & Western Sydney
  • International collaborations to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Make Music Day

Make Music Day, Tuesday 21 June 2022, aims to focus on COVID Safe Live Events in conjunction with Digital Events with NSW based and international partners.
